Night Rating – EASA NR(A) allows you to fly during night time in Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC) and extends the privileges of PPL(A) to flying after sunset under VFR.
Obtaining this rating makes time building more flexible and enjoyable, adding a vital skill set to your logbook that prepares you for advanced commercial operations.
Before stepping into the cockpit at night, you need to understand the physiological and aerodynamic differences of night operations. The theoretical preparation consists of 5 hours with an instructor.
The flight training is performed on a single engine piston (SEP) aircraft according to visual flight rules (VFR) at night. The training consists of at least 5 hours.
Local night flights with an instructor reviewing basic manoeuvres, emergencies, take-off, and landing procedures.
Local solo night flight under the close supervision of a flight instructor on the ground including 5 take-offs and 5 landings.
Prerequisites to begin your Night Rating
The pilot must currently hold a valid Private Pilot License.
Must hold at least a Class 2 Medical certificate with an audio extension.
Must be proficient in the English language, Mathematics, and Physics.
